Random Thoughts

Ready? Here we gooooooo.....

So why do all the celebrities wear hair extensions? I mean I understand wanting to change things up here and there but a lot of them wear them all the time. Why don't they just grow their hair long? I don't get it.

What is a calorie? And how did people/scientist discover them? How did they know that is what caused people to gain weight? And how do some things that are really really small have so many calories?

Minnesota, Minnesota, Minnesota...should we move to Minnesota? The cf clinic there is the top cf center in the US and they are able to somehow get people with cf lung's function over 100% like around 110 to 115%. Oh why o why is the best cf clinic in Minnesota?? Why? Why? Why? I just need a crystal ball.

Took the kids to a playdate today (Target). Oh how fast a couple of hours go by in Target and how fast it all adds up!! $$$ Note to self...buy Target stock.

Why wash clothes when you can just buy new ones?

Paul can make it rain....He just needs to wash one of our cars and BAM it rains! We haven't had rain in forever...Thanks Paul!

Joke- Just For Fun

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does
it cost to get married?" And the father replied, "I
don't know son, I'm still paying."

----------------------------------------------------------------
Young son: Is it true Dad, that in some parts of
Africa a man doesn't know his wife until he marries her?
Dad: That happens in every country, son.

Doctor Visit

The kids went to their cf dr appt today. They both gained weight and both are taller! Yay! No change in the meds that they take which are enzymes with meals, Hypertonic Saline which is a inhale med, abuteral which is also and inhale med and N-acetylcysteine which is also an inhale med. They also take vitamins, singular, magnesium and prevacid. Both boys do not culture anything (knock on wood) which they check every time we go in for a doctor appt. They did good on their pft's which is what measures lung function. Kyler's have dropped a few points and the doctor talked about doing a tune up to see about getting numbers back up. He is usually high 90's and today was lower 90's. He wanted us to think about doing it in the next 3 months. Kyler has only had iv antibiotics 2 times in his life so we are pretty lucky with that. The doctor said we could go in and get the iv put in and then do the rest at home so that was good. I will let you know what date we decide. So thats about it. We went running tonight (Fun Run) and Kyler got 10 laps (9 is a mile and 1/2) and Branson got 9 so they did great with that as always! We did the fun run 3 times this week. Hope everyone has a good night!

Another Thought For The Day

People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. However, people will never forget how you made them feel.

Sea World

Hello,

We had a great time at Sea World today! We are all super tried...is it wrong to not take a shower after sweating all day in the heat and just go to bed? Well that is what I am going to do anyway! LOL! I will post pictures tomorrow. They have a new ride there kind of like the log ride but with a bigger boat and you get soaking wet. Jade kept pointing at it when the people would come down the drop and she would say "no ride!" It was so cute! We didn't make her ride it plus she was too short anyway but me and the boys rode it and we got soaked! It was fun! Oh, see that was kind of like a shower. LOL! Talk to everyone tomorrow!

Update

Hello, Hope everyone had a good weekend! We had a really fun one! We played poker with our friends, went to dinner and played pool on Sat night and went to a party/bbq on Sun that was a lot of fun! The kids had a blast at this party too. There was lots of kids and a blow up waterslide that they played on all day! Today I can barely keep my eyes open!

My diet it going really well!! Last week I got up every morning and went running and I also ran with the boys when we did the fun run at night 4 times last week! My weight is still the same but I can tell how my clothes are fitting that I have lost inches. I guess I am trading fat for muscle and that is why I haven't gone down with the scale? Not sure but I know I have lost just because of how my clothes are fitting. Last week we did eat out at lunch with Paul everyday but I stuck with healthy stuff and ate at home at night. Also I ate very light like a ham sandwich when I did eat at home! :)

This week is off to a good start...I got up and went running this morning and I am eating at home all day today! Paul is taking the day off tomorrow and we are going to go to Sea World or Six Flags. The boys have a cf doctors appt this thurs so I will update on that on thurs. Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Random Short Letters

I saw this idea on another post so I thought I would borrow the idea and do a post with it. Here we go...

Dear Exercise,

I want to thank you for always being there for me and always following through on all your promises! Not once did you ever lie to me and promise me something that you could do. I am sorry for all the verbal abuse I have thrown at you through the years! Always using four letter words while I was working out or tell you how much I hate you but the truth is, I love you! Not only do you provide me with the best body I could ask for but you also always life my spirits, make my mood positive and help me through stressful times! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I promise to try not to verbally abuse you anymore!

Dear House,

Thank you for not only being our house but being our home! We love you more each and every day! I do have one complaint. Remember how we talked about you keeping clean? I am getting very disappointed by how you are not keeping your end of the deal! I can't keep you clean while trying to entertain 3 kids during the summer! Please, please try to work harder on this and we will love you even more! Thank you!

Dear Allergies,

Please leave me the heck alone! I have had enough and because of you I have kept benadril and zertec in business and it is time I put that money else where. Thank you and don't let the door hit ya on the way out!

Dear Laundry,

Please learn to fold yourselves. I just don't have the time! Also learn to put your self up, in fact please just learn to do everything by yourself as you are my least favorite thing to do! Thank you!

Dear CF,

Your days are numbered!! Too many people have had enough of you and a cure will soon wipe you out of this world!! It is getting closer, we can all feel it!!

Dear Readers of My Blog,

Thank you for reading my blog and please feel free to come back anytime! I love you all and hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Love,
Me

Fun Run

Hello! During the school year my kids do something at school called the Fun Run. Every week they run laps for 15 min and the magic number is 6 which is a mile. If they run 6 laps every week they will get a certificate at the end of each 9 weeks. If they run 7, 8 or 9 laps (9 laps is a mile and a half) they get a certificate each week and if they get 10 laps they get a certificate that week, get their name on a board and get another certificate at the end of the 9 weeks. All year Kyler got anywhere from 8 laps to 9 but the last run he got 10! Branson got anywhere from 6 to 8 laps but the last one he got 9 laps!

Well we decided to keep this Fun Run thing going during the summer with just us and how do we motivate our kids to WANT to do this? And not only motivate to do the fun run but to do it 3 times a week? Can you guess? It is the same thing that makes the whole world go round...MONEY! My kids will do anything for money! They get $1.00 for 6 laps, 1.50 for 7 laps, 2.00 for 8 laps, 3.00 for 9 laps and 5.00 for 10 laps. We go up to their school about 7pm and I also do the fun run with them. I husband does the time and he has a sharpie pen to put dots on our hands as we run by so we know how many laps we have done. Both boys always lap me so they like to run with me. :) There is a play ground also and my daughter plays up there while we are running.

This is the second week we have done this and this week my kids wanted to do the fun run 4 times!! I am so proud of both of them! They do such a great job!! Both of them run the whole time without having to walk! I can run 1/2 a mile but after that I have to walk here and there to catch my breath. After the 15 min the kids and my husband go and kick a soccer ball around or play basket ball while I continue on to do a total of 12 laps (2 miles). We really have had fun doing this! We plan to do this all summer!

Price Of Oil

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel. OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel. Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel. Can't buy it? Tough! Eat your oil!

The Power Of The Mind

So I thought I would post a little about what life taught me in the past that I would know today and would be helpful with cf. Back when I was in college and living in my first apartment I had a roommate. We worked at the same job which was retail. She was a great girl but she was a little like a mom. Always asking if I finished my homework, waking me up every morning to make it to class and always riding me so that I wouldn't be late for work, ect. Well at that time I was not as responsible as she was and was more into partying and having a good time then really caring about making it to work and class on time which I am sure that is why she was always reminding me. One weekend she was going out of town to visit her sister and I got invited to a very important party so I called in sick to work on Fri. Then on Sat something else fun came up so I decided to call in sick that day too. I had a great time that weekend but kept trying to think of something to tell my roommate so that I wouldn't get in trouble with her. On Sun (which was the day she was coming home) my chest broke out with some kind of rash. I had bought a new perfume and guess I was allergic to it. So she came home and asked how work had gone that weekend and I told her I came down with a really bad sore throat and had broken out in some kind of rash and had gone to the doctor and he said a sore throat accompanied by a rash on the skin was going around and it was contagious so I couldn't go to work on Fri and Sat. Well she bought it and was glad I was feeling better. Looking back now I do feel guilty about lying to her but back then I was a dumb kid. Well guess what happened and mind you I made the whole thing up except the rash which was actually caused by the new perfume and was gone by Mon morning.....My roommate woke up with a rash and a sore throat. Yep, I kid you not! She went to the doctor and told him my doctor said it was going around and he said, hmmm I haven't seen this but I guess it is going around since you have it. Then she told me that her doctor said it would probably be contagious for 3 to 4 days and not to go to work or school till then. And no she did not use my new perfume because I had already taken it back. I felt bad because I knew her body had done a mind over body thing because of what I had told her but I couldn't tell her that. I didn't want her mad at me. So I learned back then that the mind is very powerful!

Shortly after that I got a new job I liked a lot better and me and my roommate got along really well till we went our separate ways about 6 months later. And occasionally we keep in touch. I haven't talk to her since I started this blog so that is why it is safe to tell this story.

Kyler, Branson and CF

Kyler and Branson do not know that people can die from cf. We keep them as far away from that as possible. I hope to be able to keep them that way for as long as I can. They did not know about Haley Palmer or hear her story. We don't take them to any kind of cf event (like the cf walks, ect). They know they have something called cf and it involves breathing treatments, enzymes, and sometimes going into the hospital for iv meds and that is about all they know. I hope to keep it that way for as long as I can. They are too young to have something like that on their shoulders. My mom use to talk about her dying when I was really young and it scared me so bad. Not real sure why she did this except maybe she thought she was preparing me for something but I thought she was going to keel over at any minute and I lived in that fear for a long time and I don't want my kids to have that kind of fear ever! CF is scary because each person that has it is so different. Kyler and Branson are very different cf wise. It is a blow anytime you hear about someone not making it with cf no matter how old and every time I hear of someone older who has cf I cross my fingers. I know a man who is 77 and has cf and has the same Bday as Branson and I look at that as a sign. Every day is a day closer to something new they will come out with that will extend the lives of people with cf and every day I have faith and hope. Anyway I just thought I would put this out there.

How I Fix My Hair

I have had a few questions on how I fix my hair so I thought this would be a good post. So here it goes....it is just all natural. Thats it. I don't have to do a thing to make it look like this.....JK! Don't you hate when people say that! Ok here is how I really do it. I wash my hair then towel dry it. I then spray my hair with Tresemme Heat Tamer Spray which is like a detangler and comb it out. Then I decide if I am going to wear it straight or curl it with hot rollers. If I am going to wear it straight then I put tresemme's straightening gel in my hair. If I am going to curl my hair I put pantene curl defining gel in and if I am not sure then I use pantene body builder volumizing gel and decided later. Then I blow dry my hair. I blow dry my hair the same way weather I am wearing it straight or if if I am going to curl it. First I blow dry upside down, then just blow dry for awhile till hair is almost dry then I use a brush to blow dry the rest of the way dry. Then I use a straightener to straighten my hair or I use hot rollers to curl my hair. I usually wash my hair every 3 days. The days I do not wash my hair I will spray the Tresemme Heat Tamer on my hair then use my straighten or hot rollers. If I straighten my hair on the day I wash it then I have to wear it straight on the days I do not wash it and same if I curl it with hot rollers. And that is pretty much it. As far as shampoos and cond. go I use different ones. I like Pantene, Tresemme, Herbal Essences, ect. I usually get the ones for color treated hair or deep conditioning. I do high light my hair in the spring and summer a couple shades lighter than my natural color and then go back to my natural color in the winter. When I was a kid I didn't have to do this because I had the time to hang out outside and my hair would natural lighten up but now I give it some help. I started high lighting my hair when I was 23 or 24. I also play around with my parts, sometimes I part it in the middle and sometimes on the side and I switch sides here and there. So thats it in a nut shell!
